Abstract
The use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in single visit apexification is a recent development in the
management of teeth with open apices that has rapidly gained acceptance among dentists. It also reduces
treatment time and boosts patient compliance. This technique's effectiveness lies in the prompt shaping
and cleaning of the root canal system, followed by its apical sealing with MTA. Calcium hydroxide is most
frequently recommended. However, the drawbacks of prolonged treatment times, the risk of tooth fracture,
and the partial calcification of apical bridge have led to the development of novel biocompatible materials
that can complete apexification in a single visit. Despite the availability of other materials, Mineral Trioxide
Aggregate (MTA) continues to be the preferred material for establishing an immediate apical barrier due to
its exceptional clinical features along with its excellent success rate. This case report illustrates the
successful clinical and radiological application of MTA for the establishment of a hard tissue barrier in vital
permanent tooth with open apex.
