Management Of Transverse Discrepancy Using Rapid Maxillary Expansion: A Case Report

Background: Transverse maxillary deficiency in patients is challenging problem, especially when it is combined with a severe anteroposterior jaw discrepancy This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of a 15-year-old female patient diagnosed with Angle's Class I malocclusion superimposed on class 3 skeletal base with severe maxillary constriction in conjugation with bilateral crossbite, reverse overjet treated non-extraction with rapid maxillary expansion of upper arch. Hyrax expander was used with 90 degrees turn twice a day. Treatment outcome showed 10mm expansion after 3 weeks of activation. Followed by fixed mechanotherapy. Treatment results suggests that correct diagnosis and intervention at appropriate age can change an extraction protocol to non-extraction and surgical case to nonsurgical case.
